志野焼( Shino -ware )
Pottery covered with "Sino"Glaze

Basic form of Shino consists of some drawings or patterns with iron oxide on the surface and half-transparent feldspar glaze over it.
Other representative forms are: Muji Shino (no patterns on it), Nezumi Shino (gray colored), Beni Shino (red colored).
Since the feldspar glaze doesn't easily melt and so isn't too runny, it is relatively easy to handle in terms of thermal management.
Shino-ware is produced by reduction firing.
